Sample Track from The Holy Longing's CD, The Holy Longing
During the summer of 2014 The Holy Longing released its first CD, The Holy Longing. The CD is currently being mastered and will be available for redistribution in January 2017. In the meantime, below is a sample track from that original work, Mary Oliver's Maybe. Enjoy!
The Holy Longing Performs Hafez's You Were Brave in That Holy War
Recently The Holy Longing had the privilege of performing at the War Memorial in Grosse Pointe, Mi. On a whim, at the last minute we hired a videographer to experiment with capturing the performance, mostly for our own personal history. The capture came out quite well, considering the lack of advanced planning. It has motivated us to consider something more professional down the road. In the meantime, I invite you to enjoy this small clip, a piece from Hafez, with which we end our performance. The piece is entitled "You Were Brave in That Holy War" and it speaks to the difficulty of the earthly life; the struggle it takes to live and especially to find unconditional love on this earth, while at the same time offering us nurturing and unconditional love from The Tender One. I hope you find as much solace in Hafez's words as I do and I hope you enjoy our interpretation of the piece, in both voice and mood...
Interview with Karen Hager of Empower Radio
Recently I was interviewed by Karen Hager on empowerradio.com. It was a generous hour long interview in which I discussed my work at Return to the Mystic and Mystic Poet Circle. That interview is available for streaming, here (Scroll to the Jan. 21st, 2014 interview.). Have a listen and feel free to send feedback by using the form on the Contact page.
You Were Brave in That Holy War - Hafez
You have done well
In the contest of madness.
You were brave in that holy war.
You have all the honorable wounds
Of one who has tried to find love
Where the Beautiful Bird
Does not drink.
May I speak to you
Like we are close
And locked away together?
Why not rest your tired body?
Lean back and close your eyes.
I will kneel by your side and feed you.
I will so gently
Spread open your mouth
And let you taste something of my
Sacred mind and life.
There is something wrong
With your ideas of
O, surely there is something wrong
With your ideas of
If you think
Our Beloved would not be so
